4th December, Tokyo - Event of the Diplomatic Jubilee The eleven figure "Garden of Philosophy" of late sculptor Nándor Wagner was unveiled in Tetsugaku-do (Court of Philosophy) in Nakano-ku, Tokyo. The ceremony was opened by Mayor Daisuke Tanaka and a welcome speech was given by President of Assembly Masanobu Ito, the Hungarian Vice Ambassador H.E. Béla Bozsik gave an in depth introduction of the life of Nandor Wagner and his art, Director Atsushi Kaifu Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the symbolic importance of the unveiling and Mrs. Chiyo Wagner expressed her thanking for this special event of the diplomatic jubilee in the 20th year of ruling Emperor Akihito. The Budapest and Nakano-ku "Garden of Philosophy" will act as spiritual bridge between Japan and Hungary. Picture report of unveiling ceremony |
17th October - 15th November, Sakura city The works of Nandor Wagner will be exhibited in the Museum of Sakura city. Statue of Moses will be placed in the front garden of the Museum. The five central figures of the "Garden of Philosophy", small statues, terracotta and paintings will be put on display. The life of the sculptor will be shown on tables with selected photos. |
15th October - 15th November, Mashiko Autumn Exhibition of Nándor Wagner works in Mashiko. Selected pieces of the "Garden of Philosophy" presented for the Diplomatic Jubilee will be shown. This exhibition is focusing on the coming unveiling event in Nakano-ku in December. |
6th October - Székesfehérvár It was 160 years ago when the Martyrs of Arad were executed by the Austrian general, Julius Freiherr von Haynau after wipe of the Hungarian Revolution. According to the customs the National Day of Mourning was held at Corpus Hungaricum in Székesfehérvár this year already on 10th occasion. The programme was given by II. Rákóczi Ferenc School. The wreaths of remembrance were placed by Mayor Tihamér Warvasovszky, President of the Assembly dr. Ibolya Balogh, the local military, parties and civil organizations. 1-15 September, Felsőbánya This year the Summer Camp of the Painters were supported the fourth time by our Foundation. The leader Ágoston Véső is putting an emphasis on following the style of Nagybánya painters (Simon Hollósy) at the beginning of the 20th century. 5th September - Farkaslaka During an intimate local festival the buste of Áron Tamási (1987-1966) great Hungarian writer was unveiled. This project was supported by our Foundation. August - Kurotani foundry, Japan The 3 stollen statues were cast by Kurotani Foundry in Japan. The statues soon will be shiped to Budapest. |
21st August - Nakano-ku, Tokyo After a long preparation it has been decided that the Garden of Philosophy will be placed in Tetsugaku-do, Nakano-ku, Tokyo, on 4th of December. The group of statues is composed of 11 statues including the figures of the law Justinianus, Hammurabi and Shotoku Taishi. It will be placed using Nandor Wagner sketches. The presentation project will commemorate of the 140th anniversary of opening and 50th anniversary of reopening diplomatic ties between Hungary and Japan. Tetsugaku-do (in Japanese) |
15th April - 15th May, Nagyvárad, 4th Nándor Wagner Prize This year contest of the art students of the Partium Christian University brought 13 works. Contesting topic was: the present and the future of city Nagyvárad. Prizes: 1. László Ary, Hunor Ferencz and Csaba Kubanek: Nagyvárad, 2. Teréz Murányi-Matza and Anita Bódi: Varadinum, 3. divided between Zsolt Hátszegi and Zselyke Groos: Walk around Varad, and Tamás Szőcs : Oradea colorful city. 15th of April - 15th of May, Mashiko Spring exhibition in Mashiko Art Galery. Musashi spent many years studying Buddhism and swordsmanship. He created and perfected a two-sword kenjutsu technique . He was an accomplished artist, sculptor, and calligrapher also using two hands. In his book The Book of Five Rings - Go Rin No Sho he pointed that Strategy and Virtue are something which can be earned by knowing the ways of life. "Only from Clean Spring" Béla Bartók Cantata Profana Sculptor Nandor Wagner made this plate for the Tochigi Japanese National Athletic Competition in 1980. The dynamic motif is showing an athlete at the finish-line. The lowered head with concentration, the sweep of the legs and the flying hands in the air are representing the counterpoint of efforts and the joy of winning at the same time. The athlete just has been arriving to the rays of Sun from swirling clouds of the typhoon is symbolizing the difficulties of the competition and the clean line of the movement implies to the required norms of high ethics. The message of the medal reminds us both the difficulties in the past and the joy of present. It has been selected as a commemorative medal for the 140th and 50th anniversary of Hungarian Japanese diplomatic ties. Japan-Danube Friendship Year 2009 |
